This is what a morning looks like

The shape of the day, the rooms it happens in, what gets eaten, and how all of it reaches you.

The morning, from the door onwards

Six stages, in the same order in every room. The younger the class, the shorter each one lasts.

Rooms built to be used

Nothing here is a display. If it is out on a shelf, a child is allowed to pick it up.

The main hall at Kuningan, set up for a morning of movement

The hall

Movement, music, and somewhere to run when the weather says otherwise.

A tray of dry rice and wooden scoops on a low table

Sensory room

Rice, water, dough and sand, on a floor that is meant to get messy.

Children climbing on the indoor playground frame

Indoor playground

Climbing and balance, whatever the afternoon rain is doing.

Classrooms

One room per level at Kuningan, with everything at child height.

What happens after the morning

KYZN Afterschool Care picks up where the school day stops, and runs until pick-up.

Fourteen activities run across the week, from swimming and gymnastics through to bricks, ballet and music. A child does one a day, not four.

Around it sits the part that matters more at this age: a rest, a healthy snack, and a bath, so the child who gets into the car is not the one who has been going since half past seven.

  • Fourteen activities across the week.
  • A rest, a healthy snack and a bath before pick-up.
  • Ask admissions which activities run at your campus.

What gets eaten

Snack is a lesson as well as a meal. Children pour their own drink, serve themselves, and clear their own plate.

How the year gets written down

Teachers record what they see while it is happening. This is one entry, as it reaches you in illumine.

A child's hands painting on thick paper at a low table
Creative expression
Chose the thick brush, mixed red into yellow, and stopped to look at what had happened before painting again. Named the colour orange without being told it.
Knowledge
Two colours can make a third.
Skills practiced
Holding a brush, mixing, waiting for a result.
Attitude shown
Stopped to look before carrying on.
Next step
Offer blue, and see whether the same test gets repeated.

You will not have to ask how it went

Every KYZN family gets illumine. Six things live in it, and all six update during the morning rather than after it.

The daily report usually lands before a parent has left the office: a photo or two, what was eaten, how long the nap ran, and one line about what happened.

The rest is there so an ordinary question does not need a phone call. Attendance, the portfolio, this week's snack menu, a direct message to the class teacher, and the term calendar.

  • Daily report

Photos and a short note, sent before you leave the office.

  • Attendance

See the moment your child is checked in and out.

  • Portfolio

Observations collected all year, not only at report time.

  • Snack menu

This week's menu, published every Monday.

  • Messages

Reach your child's teacher without a class group chat.

  • Calendar

Term dates, holidays and events in one place.
